Over the trick-or-treating and ready to celebrate Halloween as a grown-up? Put on a wickedly cool costume and make these Halloween vodka Jell-O shots inspired by Real Food By Dad!

When tiny trick-or-treaters show up at your front door and you wax nostalgic for your own childhood Halloween adventures, you don’t have to scarf down the remaining bags of bite-size candy and sadly go to bed. Instead, get in your kitchen, whip up these four-flavor Halloween Jell-O cocktails and invite your friends to a drink and costume get-together.

Vodka Jell-O shots featuring lime, orange, cherry, and sweet milk flavors are the hauntingly best way to drink your liquor and still feel like a kid. Be warned, however, if you tip back too many of these lusciously layered and jiggly shooters, you may actually start behaving like a child. Remember to drink responsibly.

If you’ve never made vodka Jell-O shots, you’re going to love how easily these deliver yummy colorful layers of vodka-infused Jell-O and jiggly-rich layers of sweetened condensed milk. Making Jell-O shooters is frighteningly fuss-free, and with some patience to allow each vodka Jell-O layer to set up, you’ll be whipping up these cocktails year-round.

Plan ahead, because these Halloween vodka Jell-O shots require preternatural endurance. Certainly, mixing up a standard Halloween cocktail gives you instant gratification, but Jell-O shots show your party-hardy friends you have impressive holiday self-control. Give yourself at least 1 hour to cunningly craft these jiggly Halloween party drinks.

Make a plain gelatin base

Pour water into a small saucepan and sprinkle the Knorr plain gelatin on top. Allow it to bloom for 3 to 4 minutes. Heat on low, stirring constantly, until the plain gelatin dissolves. Set this aside.

Partially set the lime, orange, and cherry Jell-O

These shots are flavorfully and colorfully layered. Let’s make the base of these Jell-O layers. Using three separate bowls, prepare the lime, orange, and cherry Jell-O placing 1 flavor in each bowl. Prepare according to “fast set” directions on the back of the Jell-O box until partially set.

Add vodka and plain gelatin to the Jell-O

Here’s where the fun begins. Add 3/4 cup of vodka into each bowl of Jell-O. Stir well to combine. Pour a 1/2-cup portion of the plain gelatin into each of the Jell-O flavors, stirring well to combine.

Prepare the sweetened condensed milk layer

Pour sweetened condensed milk into a large bowl. Add 1 cup of the plain gelatin and stir well to combine. Divide the sweetened condensed milk mixture into 1/2-cup portions.

Layer Jell-O and sweetened condensed milk gelatin in shot glasses

Remove the chilled shot glasses from the freezer. Measure and pour 1 tablespoon of 1 Jell-O color into the glasses. Freeze for 5 minutes to set up. Remove the shot glasses from the freezer and pour 1 tablespoon of the milk/gelatin mixture into each of the glasses over the first layer of Jell-O. Freeze for 5 minutes to set. Continue to layer Jell-O and milk/gelatin mixture until all of the shot glasses are filled and set.

Halloween vodka Jell-O Shots

Yield 36 servings

Ingredients

  • 36 plastic 2-inch shot glasses
  • 2-1/2 cups water
  • 6 packets Knorr gelatin packets
  • 1 (3-ounce box) lime Jell-O
  • 1 (3-ounce box) orange Jell-O
  • 1 (3-ounce box) cherry Jell-O
  • 1 (14-ounce can) sweetened condensed milk
  • 2-1/2 cups vodka, divided into three 3/4-cup portions

Instructions

  1. Place plastic shot glasses on a baking sheet and transfer to the freezer until ready to fill.
  2. Pour water into a small saucepan, and sprinkle gelatin on top.  Allow to bloom for 3 to 4 minutes.
  3. Heat on low, stirring constantly, until the plain gelatin dissolves. Set aside.
  4. Using 3 separate bowls, prepare lime orange, and cherry Jell-O, placing 1 flavor in each bowl, according to “fast set” directions on back of Jell-O box until partially set.
  5. Add a 3/4-cup of vodka into each bowl of Jell-O and stir well to combine.
  6. Pour a 1/2-cup portion of the plain gelatin into the lime Jell-O, another 1/2-cup into the orange Jell-O, and the remaining 1/2-cup into the cherry Jell-O. Stir each bowl to combine well.
  7. Pour sweetened condensed milk into a large bowl. Add 1 cup of plain gelatin and stir well.
  8. Take the 1-1/2 cups of the milk/gelatin mixture and measure into three 1/2-cup portions.   
  9. Remove the chilled shot glasses from the freezer. Measure and pour 1 tablespoon of 1 color of the Jell-O into the glasses. Transfer the shots to the freezer and chill for about 5 minutes to set.
  10. Remove the shot glasses from the freezer. Pour 1 tablespoon of the milk/gelatin mixture into each of the glasses then transfer to the freezer and chill for about 5 minutes to set.
  11. Remove the shot glasses from the freezer and repeat with remaining layers of Jell-O and milk/gelatin mixture until all of the shot glasses are filled.
  12. Serve.

Note: There should be 5 layers, alternating 3 flavors of Jell-O and 2 layers of milk/gelatin.
