Enter: DIY lip scrub. Trust us, you’ve got products in your cupboard that will do just as good (if not better) of a job.

The sugar gently scrubs, while the coconut oil (which is rich in essential fatty acids) and honey both soothe and moisturize — it’s like a mini spa treatment for your lips.
The light fragrances of honey and coconut won’t overpower any other scents you might be wearing, either.
Tip: Our beauty experts suggest exfoliating your lips no more than three times a week. Any more than that, and you could damage the sensitive lip skin.
DIY lip scrub for a sweet smile
Make up a few batches so you can keep some for yourself and give some away! This little recipe would also be a fun gift for teens to make and give.
Want something a little more fragrant? Create variety by adding a drop or two of food-grade essential oils, such as vanilla, orange, lemon or ginger. The smell and taste will keep your senses happy. (Note that some types of oils may irritate your lips, so experiment carefully.)

Ingredients & supplies for this homemade gift
For each tin-full of soothing homemade honey-coconut lip scrub, you will need:
- White granulated sugar
- Coconut oil at room temperature
- Honey (organic, if you like)
- Lip balm tins (We used tins from the wedding favor section at Michael’s, but you can also get them from Amazon)
How to make honey-coconut lip scrub
- Measure about a rounded teaspoon of sugar into a small bowl.
- Add a rounded teaspoon of coconut oil.
- Measure out a scant teaspoon of honey and add that to the bowl of oil and sugar.
- Mix together with a spatula.
- Using a spatula or plastic spoon, fill tins with scrub. (Don’t use a knife — it could scratch the tins.)
