Maple leaf sugar cookies

A recipe inspired by Sally's Baking Addiction

Thanksgiving Maple Leaf Sugar Cookies 01

Nothing conjures up images of a lovely fall day better than brightly-colored leaves — which makes these maple leaf cookies, inspired by Sally’s Baking Addiction, the perfect autumn treat!

They have all the buttery goodness of classic sugar cookies, with the optional addition of almond flavoring to brighten their taste. These cookies would be perfect for a Thanksgiving celebration or a fall party. Kids will love to help make them — and will really love to help eat them!

For these treats, we used the Soft cut-out sugar cookie recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction. She put tons of time into figuring out how to get just the perfect texture and consistency, and you can tell that with every bite.

The dough and frosting can be made in advance and chilled for convenience. Once baked, the cookies will stay soft and delicious for at least five days, so these are great for gifting. You also can double this recipe easily if you need enough for a large crowd.

Let your creativity run wild as you decorate them with all the warm colors of a fall forest! They bake up in less than 10 minutes, so you won’t have to wait long to get to the decorating fun. Use your own personal style to customize your cookie creations by painting on the icing smoothly or with some texture (as shown here), or by dipping frosting, drizzling a more liquid icing, and/or adding sprinkles.
