Mulled Wine Sangria

Ingredients
- 4 cups merlot wine
- 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 3 whole star anise
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/2 cup Brandy
- 1 orange sliced
- 12 ounces ginger ale
Instructions
- In a small skillet add 1 cup red wine, dark brown sugar, star anise, cinnamon sticks and cloves.
- Bring to a simmer, stir and remove from heat. Let cool to room temperature and strain out whole spices.
- In a large pitchers add cooled spiced wine, the other remaining 3 cup of red wine, orange juice, Brandy, orange slices and ginger ale.
- Taste to see if it needs more sweetness. If so, add a few tablespoons of quick dissolving sugar. Keep cool and serve over ice.
